A graduate of Davidson College, class of 1932, Grier Martin served as Davidson College treasurer under President Cunningham. He became president of Davidson in 1958. During his administration, the college's permanent endowment greatly increased and several construction projects were completed or near completion including the E.H. D. Grier Martin was the 13th president of Davidson College. Born in Covington, Ga., in 1910, he graduated from Davidson College in 1932 and attended Emory University from 1932-1933. In 1933 he returned to Davidson to become alumni secretary and publicity director. He left Davidson in 1936 to accept a position as department manager of the Campbell Coal Co. in Atlanta, Ga.
